Narendra Modi's Teen Aged Bride

[PADA: Apparently, having a young bride has been common in India even up to recently, and its also part of the culture to separate from the wife for spiritual progress. Srila Prabhupada said that many of the kings and sages of India also renounced their families for their spiritual program.

We have read some articles on the RSS party that Narendra Modi participates in, and it says the party is mainly men and it "discourages association with women." Srila Prabhupada did say that nowadays, before the man leaves the wife, he should provide the wife with at least one child, so she will have someone to transfer her affection to. We think that is a good policy for modern times.

Of course Srila Prabhupada broke the tradition again when he invited many women to come and stay in the temples of ISKCON, and he made women into poojaris and so forth, because he understood that women would have to be included more in the whole process -- during the modernized current age. And so we will find that just about everywhere in and around ISKCON, many women are coming to the temples and they are participating in all levels of temple services including doing the pooja. Our local Prabhupada temple here is packed out with women.

At the same time, we ALL have to continue to understand that we are not this body, and so our current human male and female forms are simply a temporary dress for the soul, just like the insects, birds, dogs, rabbits, lions, and so forth, these are also dresses for the soul. And so we should not be too attached to any particular material form we are in temporarily. I just had to remove a dead squirrel in my parking space, and its a reminder of how temporary all this is. Anyway, one of the reasons Narendra Modi is so much affectionate towards Srila Prabhupada is probably that he knows that the modernized system of Srila Prabhupada's incorporating women is the better idea, and we agree. ys pd]
