ISKCON's Farm Projects Diminishing

‎Dandavats Dasa

PAMHO AGTSP

I began with the New Orleans ISKCON Hare Krsna center in 1976. One thing that was probably the foundation of the development was supportive community members and supportive congregation members.

The situation may be different in large ISKCON centers such as New York, Los Angeles, and around India. The New Orleans area just isn't so much up with Eastern thought. It has taken over 40 years for the common trends to improve some in favor of Krsna consciousness.

Things were different during the 1970's and even the 1980's with Srila Prabhupada physically present or senior devotees held onto the old ISKCON ways. The current situation around New Talavana is many devotees seeking employment outside of ISKCON Hare Krsna and apparently wanting to spend the rest of their life with some kind of employment or some kind of business activity.

New Talavana is still offering a place for living to woofers and new Bhaktas in the form of rooms which are usually spartan and very limited regarding artificial amenities. The Temple President and his family have so much taken in the lead in seeing that the bills are paid and Prasadam is distributed every day at New Talavana. In recent years Yogindra Prabhu and his wife Mother Maharani have suffered with some serious medical problems. The future is uncertain. How will the bills be paid?

At the present time I have been serving at New Talavana since 2009. For more than two years I am up most of the night almost every single night to see to the cleaning in the kitchen, cutting veggies, and other chores. Some of the services I am doing in the kitchen could possibly be managed by an uneducated person, but so far no one has been able to replace me. There is a need to understand the brahminical demands in handling of paraphernalia in the kitchen. Someone has to make sure things are sealed and the stove is turned off completely. However, I am now faced with how to obtain the money needed at least just for the basic supplies needed every month.

Every month the New Talavana kitchen is needing dish soap, laundry soap, paper towels, and similar essentials. I put together a list of what I believe is enough supplies like this to last at least one month. The cost is around one hundred dollars.

Therefore, my very humble request is for financial assistance to purchase what is needed for the New Talavana kitchen regarding soap and other essentials. The cause is only pure devotion to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Please let me know if you can help somehow.

I am not asking for percentages on any financial contributions coming in for New Talavana nor am I asking for a paid vacation. I am living destitute, but am somewhat self-supportive.

Your humble neighborhood Hare Krsna,
